The Awards Contenders
With only a few weeks left in the fantasy football season, now is as good a time as ever to start eyeballing out some of the awards’ races. To begin, there are a couple of awards in fantasy football that are pretty cut and dry. While there are no guarantees at this point it is pretty safe to say that rookie of the year and comeback player of the year are both looking pretty predictable. Not to take away from the phenomenal rookie seasons that Tampa Bay’s Doug Martin and Washington’s Robert Griffin III had in fantasy football, but the Colts’ Andrew Luck is the rookie of the year. If for no other reason than that he deserves to be a finalist for the MVP award as well. If the Colts make the playoffs, he ought to win MVP.
One of the other awards that is pretty set in stone is comeback player of the year. Before the obvious is stated, it would be fair to call Adrian Peterson’s miraculous recovery from an ACL injury last December to hit the ground running and be the best running back in fantasy football, but he did only miss one game last season. Peyton Manning on the other hand missed a full season after having never missed a start in his career, had four next surgeries in a year, and has come back as good as ever in fantasy football as a quarterback for the Denver Broncos.
If the regular criteria is followed it's hard to imagine Luck not being the rookie of the year and Manning not being the comeback player of the year. In fact, one of them might have to make room on their mantle, because both are extremely legit candidates to win the league’s MVP award by the time it's all said and done.
